Your Gifts Make PLATO Programs Possible
PLATO’s innovative educational programs serve thousands of students, teachers, and parents nationally and internationally, with an emphasis on reaching students in underserved classrooms and communities. These programs foster critical thinking, tolerance and understanding of diverse viewpoints, self-confidence, reasoning skills, and much more. They include:
• High school classes addressing difficult ethical issues, such as our obligations to future generations and other living beings.
• Elementary school classes that help children discuss their questions about such topics as friendship, justice, and time.
• Online seminars for teachers about how to include philosophy in math, science, art, and other subjects.
• Programs for families to inspire deeper conversations at home.
“Philosophy has been an authentic way to connect the children and their thoughts about the world, and it has allowed for meaningful conversations. It is exciting to see how at such a young age, kids are given the opportunity to engage in philosophical discussions and have a space to honor and develop their ideas.”
— Title I Elementary School Teacher
Offering philosophy to young people, and especially those whose voices historically have been marginalized, brings needed new perspectives to philosophy and to the humanities. We believe that every student deserves access to philosophy and to conversations that matter to them.
